  • Liquid Density: Understanding Why Liquids Float & Sink
Liquids can have both high and low density compared to other states of matter.

    Here's why:

    * Density is mass per unit volume.

    * Liquids are generally denser than gases because the molecules are packed much closer together.

    * Liquids can be less dense than solids. For example, water is less dense as a solid (ice) than as a liquid. This is why ice floats.

    * The density of a liquid depends on the specific substance. For example, mercury is a very dense liquid, while gasoline is a relatively low-density liquid.

So, you can't definitively say that all liquids have high or low density. It depends on the specific liquid being considered.
