  • What Fills a Balloon? Understanding Gases, Liquids, and Solids
The inside of a balloon is filled with gas.

    Here's why:

    * Gases have no fixed shape or volume and expand to fill their container. This is why a balloon can be inflated to different sizes.

    * Liquids have a fixed volume but take the shape of their container.

    * Solids have a fixed shape and volume.

The most common gas used to fill balloons is helium, which is lighter than air and causes the balloon to float.
