  • Physical vs. Chemical Changes: Examples & Key Differences
Here are examples of a physical change and a chemical change:

    Physical Change:

    * Melting an ice cube: The ice cube changes from a solid to a liquid, but the chemical composition (H₂O) remains the same. This is a change in state, not a change in the substance itself.

    Chemical Change:

    * Burning a piece of wood: The wood reacts with oxygen in the air, producing ash, smoke, and gases like carbon dioxide. This is a change in the chemical composition of the wood, creating new substances.

    Key Differences:

    * Physical changes are temporary and reversible. You can freeze water back into ice.

    * Chemical changes are permanent and irreversible. You can't easily change the ash back into wood.
