  • Particle Model of Liquids: Key Characteristics Explained
Here are three things the particle model says about liquids:

    1. Particles are close together: Unlike gases, particles in liquids are closely packed, similar to solids. This means they have a fixed volume but not a fixed shape.

    2. Particles can move around: Unlike solids, where particles are essentially fixed in place, particles in liquids can move around and slide past each other. This explains why liquids can flow and take the shape of their container.

    3. Particles have a medium level of energy: Liquids have a higher level of energy than solids, allowing them to move freely. However, they have a lower level of energy than gases, which is why they don't expand to fill their container like gases do.
