  • Diatomic Molecules: Elements of the Periodic Table (Groups 1, 15-17)
    The diatomic elements commonly found on this side of the periodic table are:

    * Hydrogen (H) - Found in Group 1.

    * Nitrogen (N) - Found in Group 15.

    * Oxygen (O) - Found in Group 16.

    * Fluorine (F) - Found in Group 17.

    * Chlorine (Cl) - Found in Group 17.

    * Bromine (Br) - Found in Group 17.

    * Iodine (I) - Found in Group 17.

    These elements all exist as diatomic molecules because they are highly reactive and achieve a more stable electron configuration by sharing electrons with another atom of the same element.
