  • Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum: Your Body's Alcohol & Hydrogen Peroxide Detoxifier
The cell structure that detoxifies alcohol and hydrogen peroxide is the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER).

    Here's how:

    * Alcohol Detoxification: The SER contains enzymes like alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase which break down ethanol (alcohol) into less toxic byproducts.

    * Hydrogen Peroxide Detoxification: The SER also contains the enzyme catalase, which breaks down hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) into water and oxygen.

While other organelles like lysosomes and peroxisomes also play roles in detoxification, the SER is the primary site for alcohol and hydrogen peroxide detoxification.
