  • Understanding Oxygen Gas: Composition and Production
    Oxygen is an element, not a compound, meaning it's made up of only one type of atom. So, oxygen gas (O2) is not made of other gases.

    However, oxygen can be produced through chemical reactions, like:

    * Photosynthesis: Plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to produce glucose (sugar) and oxygen as a byproduct.

    * Electrolysis of water: Passing an electric current through water breaks it down into hydrogen and oxygen gas.

    So while oxygen isn't made *of* other gases, it can be created through reactions involving other substances.
