Sodium and Electron Loss: Achieving a Stable Octet
Sodium (Na) has 1 electron in its outer shell. To achieve an octet (8 electrons in its outer shell), it needs to lose 1 electron.
This is because sodium, being in Group 1 of the periodic table, readily forms a +1 cation by losing its single valence electron. By doing so, it attains the stable electron configuration of the previous noble gas, neon.
