  • Understanding Hydrogen Peroxide: Molecular Charge & Structure
    Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) is a neutral molecule.

    Here's why:

    * Hydrogen (H) has a +1 charge when it forms a bond.

    * Oxygen (O) has a -2 charge when it forms a bond.

    In hydrogen peroxide, each oxygen atom is bonded to one hydrogen atom and one other oxygen atom.

    * The two hydrogen atoms contribute a total of +2 charge.

    * The two oxygen atoms contribute a total of -4 charge.

    The overall charge of the molecule is +2 - 4 = -2. However, since there are two oxygen atoms, the charge is divided equally, resulting in a neutral molecule.
