  • Sodium Fluoride (NaF) Formation: Chemical Reaction & Formula
When fluorine (F) reacts with sodium (Na), it forms sodium fluoride (NaF).

    Here's why:

    * Sodium is a highly reactive metal in Group 1 of the periodic table, meaning it has a +1 charge when it forms ions.

    * Fluorine is a highly reactive nonmetal in Group 17, meaning it has a -1 charge when it forms ions.

To balance the charges, one sodium ion (Na+) combines with one fluoride ion (F-), resulting in the compound NaF.
