An alloy is a solid mixture of two or more elements, where at least one of them is a metal. The dissolving metal doesn't actually "dissolve" in the same way salt dissolves in water; instead, the atoms of the two metals become intermixed.
Here are some examples of alloys:
* Brass: An alloy of copper and zinc.
* Bronze: An alloy of copper and tin.
* Steel: An alloy of iron and carbon.
* Stainless steel: An alloy of iron, chromium, and nickel.
The properties of an alloy can be quite different from the properties of the individual metals that make it up. For example, bronze is stronger and more durable than either copper or tin.
