Understanding Molarity
Molarity (M) is a measure of concentration that tells you the number of moles of solute dissolved in one liter of solution.
Formula:
Molarity (M) = Moles of solute / Liters of solution
Applying the Formula
1. Identify the solute and solvent:
* Solute: NaCl (sodium chloride)
* Solvent: Water (H₂O)
2. Given information:
* Moles of NaCl: 6 moles
* Liters of solution: 2 L (assuming the volume of the solution is approximately the same as the volume of the water)
3. Calculate the molarity:
* Molarity (M) = 6 moles / 2 L
* Molarity (M) = 3 M
Therefore, the molarity of the solution is 3 M.
