  • Liquid Nitrogen: Understanding Its State and Properties
    It's a bit of a word trick! Here's why:

    * Liquid nitrogen IS already condensed. It's nitrogen that has been cooled down to its liquid state at -196°C (-320°F).

    * You can't condense something that's already a liquid. Condensation is the process of a gas turning into a liquid.

So, what you CAN do with liquid nitrogen:

    * Vaporize it: If you let liquid nitrogen warm up, it will turn back into gaseous nitrogen.

    * Freeze things with it: Liquid nitrogen is very cold, so it can be used to quickly freeze things like food or biological samples.
