1. Dissociation of NaCl
NaCl (sodium chloride) dissociates in water to form one sodium ion (Na+) and one chloride ion (Cl-):
NaCl(aq) → Na+(aq) + Cl-(aq)
2. Moles of Ions
Since each formula unit of NaCl produces 2 ions, 1.5 moles of NaCl will produce:
1.5 moles NaCl * 2 moles ions/mole NaCl = 3.0 moles of ions
