Nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) is made from elements belonging to two classes:

* Nitrogen (N): Nitrogen is a nonmetal and belongs to Group 15 (or VA) of the periodic table.

* Oxygen (O): Oxygen is also a nonmetal and belongs to Group 16 (or VIA) of the periodic table.
