  • Paint: Mixture or Compound? Understanding Its Composition
Paint is a mixture. Here's why:

    * Components: Paint is made up of several different substances, including pigments (for color), binders (to hold the pigments together), solvents (to thin the paint), and additives (for properties like gloss or texture).

    * No Fixed Ratio: The proportions of these components can vary depending on the type of paint.

    * Separable: The components of paint can be separated using physical methods, like evaporation (for the solvent) or filtration (for pigments).

In contrast, a compound is formed when two or more elements chemically combine in a fixed ratio, creating a new substance with different properties. For example, water (H₂O) is a compound formed from hydrogen and oxygen.
