  • Ferromagnesian Minerals: Understanding Iron and Magnesium
The two elements that are present in all ferromagnesian minerals are iron (Fe) and magnesium (Mg).

These minerals are also sometimes called silicates because they contain silicon and oxygen in the form of silicate tetrahedra. However, the defining feature of ferromagnesian minerals is the presence of iron and magnesium, which give them their dark color and heavy density.
