    * Formation of stalactites and stalagmites: Calcium bicarbonate in groundwater decomposes in caves, leading to the deposition of calcium carbonate, which forms these iconic formations.

    * Water hardness: Calcium bicarbonate contributes to the hardness of water. When heated, it decomposes, leaving behind calcium carbonate that can cause scaling in pipes and appliances.

    * Formation of limestone: Over long periods, the accumulation of calcium carbonate from decomposed calcium bicarbonate can form massive limestone deposits.
