  • Potassium and Water Reaction: Hydrogen Gas Production & Chemical Equation
    When potassium reacts with water, it produces hydrogen gas (H₂).

    This reaction is highly exothermic, meaning it releases a lot of heat, and can even cause the hydrogen gas to ignite. The reaction also forms potassium hydroxide (KOH), which is a strong base.

    Here's the chemical equation for the reaction:

    2K(s) + 2H₂O(l) → 2KOH(aq) + H₂(g)
