  • Understanding Representative Units in Molecular Compounds
The representative unit in a molecular compound is a molecule.

    Here's why:

    * Molecular compounds are formed by the sharing of electrons between nonmetal atoms.

    * Molecules are the smallest unit of a molecular compound that retains the chemical properties of that compound.

For example, water (H₂O) is a molecular compound. A single water molecule, consisting of two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom, represents the smallest unit of water that exhibits the properties of water.
