  • Neutralization Reactions: Products & Chemical Explanation
The two products formed in a neutralization reaction are:

    1. Salt: This is an ionic compound formed from the positive ion of the base and the negative ion of the acid.

    2. Water: This is formed from the hydrogen ions (H+) from the acid and the hydroxide ions (OH-) from the base.

    Example:

The neutralization reaction between hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) produces sodium chloride (NaCl) and water (H2O):

    HCl (aq) + NaOH (aq) → NaCl (aq) + H2O (l)
