  • LiO Chemical Name: Why It Doesn't Exist (and What Does!)
There is no known stable compound with the chemical formula LiO. Here's why:

    * Lithium (Li) is an alkali metal, meaning it has a +1 charge in ionic compounds.

    * Oxygen (O) is a non-metal and typically has a -2 charge in ionic compounds.

For the charges to balance, you would need two lithium ions for every one oxygen ion. The correct formula for the stable compound of lithium and oxygen is Li₂O, which is called lithium oxide.
