  • Hydrogen Gas: Element or Compound? Understanding Its Composition
    Hydrogen gas is an element.

    Here's why:

    * Elements are the simplest pure substances that cannot be broken down further by chemical means. They are made up of only one type of atom.

    * Compounds are formed when two or more different elements chemically combine in a fixed ratio.

Hydrogen gas (H₂) is made up of two hydrogen atoms bonded together. Since it consists of only one type of atom (hydrogen), it fits the definition of an element.
