  • Nitrogen: Molecules vs. Atoms - Understanding Chemical Bonding
Nitrogen in its natural state is made of molecules.

    Here's why:

    * Nitrogen gas (N₂) is diatomic: This means that two nitrogen atoms bond together to form a single nitrogen molecule.

    * Atoms are the building blocks: Atoms are the smallest unit of an element that retains the chemical properties of that element.

    * Molecules are formed by the bonding of two or more atoms: Nitrogen gas exists as N₂ molecules, not individual nitrogen atoms.
