  • Sodium and Chlorine Reaction: Formation of Sodium Chloride (NaCl)
Sodium and chlorine react to form sodium chloride (NaCl), which is common table salt.

    Here's the chemical reaction:

    2 Na + Cl₂ → 2 NaCl

    * Sodium (Na) is a highly reactive metal.

    * Chlorine (Cl₂) is a toxic gas.

    * When they react, they form an ionic bond. Sodium loses an electron to become a positively charged ion (Na+), and chlorine gains an electron to become a negatively charged ion (Cl-). These oppositely charged ions attract each other, forming the ionic compound sodium chloride.
