  • Chlorine: Atom vs. Molecule - Understanding Chemical Structure
Chlorine, as it exists naturally, is a molecule.

    Here's why:

    * Chlorine atoms (Cl) are highly reactive and unstable.

    * To achieve stability, two chlorine atoms bond together to form a chlorine molecule (Cl₂).

    * This diatomic molecule is what we typically refer to as "chlorine" in everyday language.

So, while chlorine is made up of atoms, it exists naturally as a molecule.
