  • Hard Minerals That Scratch Glass: Corundum, Quartz & Pyrite
Here are three minerals that are metallic and can scratch glass:

    1. Corundum (Sapphire/Ruby): While technically an oxide mineral, corundum is incredibly hard (9 on the Mohs Hardness Scale) and has a metallic luster in some varieties. It's the main component of sapphires and rubies.

    2. Quartz: Quartz is a silicate mineral, but some varieties like amethyst and smoky quartz have a slightly metallic luster. It's also very hard (7 on the Mohs scale).

    3. Pyrite (Fool's Gold): This sulfide mineral is known for its metallic golden color. It's harder than glass (6.0-6.5 on the Mohs scale).

Important Note: While these minerals are harder than glass, their ability to scratch it depends on factors like the specific crystal face, the force applied, and the presence of impurities.
