  • Sodium Chloride and Ammonium Nitrate: Chemical Reaction & Solubility
When sodium chloride (NaCl) and ammonium nitrate (NH₄NO₃) are mixed in solution, they do not react with each other.

    Here's why:

    * Ionic Compounds: Both sodium chloride and ammonium nitrate are ionic compounds. They dissociate into their respective ions when dissolved in water.

    * No Precipitation or Gas Formation: There is no formation of an insoluble precipitate or a gas upon mixing these two solutions.

    * No Change in pH: The reaction is essentially a double displacement reaction, where the cations and anions swap partners. However, the products are also soluble ionic compounds (sodium nitrate and ammonium chloride) and remain in solution. This means there is no significant change in pH.

Therefore, the mixture of sodium chloride and ammonium nitrate results in a solution containing a mixture of ions, but no chemical reaction occurs.
