  • Alkynes: Understanding Organic Compounds with Triple Bonds
An organic compound containing carbon, hydrogen, and at least one triple covalent bond is called an alkyne.

    Here's why:

    * Alkanes contain only single bonds between carbon atoms.

    * Alkenes contain at least one double bond between carbon atoms.

    * Alkynes contain at least one triple bond between carbon atoms.

The simplest alkyne is ethyne, also known as acetylene (C₂H₂), which has a triple bond between the two carbon atoms.
