  • Sodium Chloride (NaCl): Compound or Mixture? Understanding Chemical Bonds
NaCl (sodium chloride) is a compound.

    Here's why:

    * Compounds are formed when two or more different elements chemically combine in a fixed ratio.

    * Mixtures are combinations of substances where each substance retains its individual properties.

In NaCl, sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl) chemically react to form a new substance with properties distinct from either sodium or chlorine alone. The ratio of sodium to chlorine is always 1:1.
