  • pH of Sodium Hydroxide Solutions: Understanding Alkalinity
Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is a strong base. Strong bases completely dissociate in water, producing a high concentration of hydroxide ions (OH-). This high concentration of OH- ions makes the solution highly alkaline.

Therefore, a solution of sodium hydroxide in water would have a pH significantly greater than 7. The closer the pH is to 14, the more concentrated the NaOH solution.
