Sucralose is a zero-calorie artificial sweetener derived from sucrose (table sugar). Its structure is similar to sucrose, but three of the hydroxyl groups are replaced with chlorine atoms. This modification gives sucralose its intense sweetness and its inability to be broken down by the body.
