  • Understanding Covalent Bonds in Water (H2O)
H2O, or water, has covalent bonds.

    Here's why:

    * Covalent bonds involve the sharing of electrons between atoms. In water, each hydrogen atom shares an electron with the oxygen atom.

    * Oxygen has a higher electronegativity than hydrogen, meaning it attracts the shared electrons more strongly. This creates a polar covalent bond, where the oxygen atom has a slightly negative charge and the hydrogen atoms have slightly positive charges.
