  • Composition of Gas Giants: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus & Neptune
    The four gas giants in our solar system are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. They are primarily made up of:

    * Hydrogen (H2): The most abundant element in the universe and makes up the majority of these planets' atmospheres.

    * Helium (He): The second most abundant element in the universe and also a major component of their atmospheres.

    However, they also have trace amounts of other elements and compounds, including:

    * Methane (CH4): Contributes to the blue color of Uranus and Neptune.

    * Ammonia (NH3): Plays a role in the formation of clouds and contributes to the reddish-brown color of Jupiter.

    * Water (H2O): Found in the atmospheres and likely in deeper layers of these planets.

    * Other trace gases: Including carbon monoxide, ethane, acetylene, and phosphine.

    It's important to note that the composition of these gas giants is not uniform. Their atmospheres are layered, with the density and composition changing with depth. Deep within these planets, the pressure and temperature are so extreme that hydrogen and helium can exist in a metallic state.

    Therefore, while the "gas giants" are mostly composed of hydrogen and helium, they have a complex internal structure and contain a variety of other elements and compounds.
