  • Components of Saltwater: Understanding Dissolved Ions & Water
When salt (NaCl) is dissolved in water (H2O), there are three components:

    1. Sodium ions (Na+): These are formed when the salt dissolves and the ionic bonds between sodium and chlorine are broken.

    2. Chloride ions (Cl-): These are also formed when the salt dissolves.

    3. Water molecules (H2O): These remain as molecules and act as the solvent for the dissolved ions.
