  • Understanding Carbonate (CO3): Composition & Examples
    CO3 is a polyatomic ion called carbonate. It consists of:

    * Carbon (C): A non-metal element

    * Oxygen (O): A non-metal element

    Important Note: CO3 is not a complete molecule. It is an ion with a -2 charge. It needs to combine with other ions to form a neutral compound, such as:

    * Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3), found in chalk, limestone, and seashells.

    * Sodium Carbonate (Na2CO3), commonly known as washing soda.
