  • What is a Suspension in Paint? Understanding Paint Stability
Paint with an ingredient that prevents separation is called a suspension.

    Here's why:

    * Suspensions are mixtures where one substance (the solid) is dispersed evenly throughout another substance (the liquid).

    * The solid particles in a suspension are larger than those in a solution, and they can settle out over time if left undisturbed.

    * Emulsifiers are the ingredients that help prevent separation in suspensions. They act as a bridge between the solid and liquid phases, keeping the solid particles evenly distributed.

    Example:

    * Oil and water are immiscible, meaning they don't mix. Adding an emulsifier, like lecithin, creates an emulsion where the oil droplets are dispersed throughout the water. This prevents the oil from separating out.

So, while "suspension" describes the type of mixture, "emulsifier" describes the ingredient that prevents separation.
