  • What is an Element? Definition and Properties
A substance in which all of the building block particles are identical is called an element.

    Here's why:

    * Elements are the simplest pure substances that cannot be broken down further by chemical means. They are made up of only one type of atom.

    * Atoms are the basic building blocks of matter.

    * Compounds, on the other hand, are made up of two or more different elements chemically combined.
