  • Alloys: What They Are & Common Examples (Copper, Iron, Tin & More)
A material made from a mixture of different metals is called an alloy.

Here are some examples of alloys:

    * Brass: An alloy of copper and zinc

    * Bronze: An alloy of copper and tin

    * Steel: An alloy of iron and carbon (often with other elements added)

    * Pewter: An alloy of tin, lead, antimony, and copper

    * Solder: An alloy of lead and tin

Alloys are often made to improve the properties of the metals they are made from. For example, steel is stronger and more durable than iron, and brass is more resistant to corrosion than copper.
