  • Homogeneous Mixtures: Definition, Characteristics & Examples
A substance that mixes uniformly so that the mixture looks the same everywhere is called a homogeneous mixture.

Here are some key characteristics of a homogeneous mixture:

    * Uniform composition: The components are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

    * Single phase: The mixture appears as a single phase, either solid, liquid, or gas.

    * Indistinguishable components: You cannot visually separate the different components of the mixture.

    Examples of homogeneous mixtures:

    * Saltwater: Salt dissolves completely in water, creating a uniform solution.

    * Air: A mixture of gases like nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide.

    * Brass: An alloy made from copper and zinc.

    Contrast with Heterogeneous Mixtures:

In contrast, heterogeneous mixtures have unevenly distributed components. You can often see distinct parts or phases. Examples include sand and water, oil and water, or a salad.
