  • Understanding Cations: What Are They and How Are They Formed?
Cations represent atoms that have lost electrons.

    Here's why:

    * Atoms are neutral: They have an equal number of protons (positive charge) and electrons (negative charge).

    * Cations are positively charged: This means they have lost one or more electrons, leaving them with more protons than electrons.

For example, a sodium atom (Na) loses one electron to become a sodium cation (Na+), which has a positive charge.
