  • Aluminum: Metal Classification - Is It a Noble Gas or Transition Metal?
Aluminum is neither a noble gas nor a transition metal. It is a main group metal.

    Here's why:

    * Noble gases are located in Group 18 of the periodic table. They are characterized by their full outer electron shell, making them very unreactive. Aluminum does not have a full outer shell and is quite reactive.

    * Transition metals are located in groups 3-12 of the periodic table. They are characterized by having partially filled d orbitals and exhibit a range of oxidation states. Aluminum has only s and p orbitals, not d orbitals, and only has a +3 oxidation state.

Aluminum is a main group metal located in group 13 (also known as Group IIIA) of the periodic table.
