    * Concrete: A mixture of cement, sand, gravel, and water, with distinct aggregates visible.

    * Wood: Has distinct grain patterns due to the arrangement of fibers.

    Contrast with homogeneous materials:

    * Homogeneous: This means "uniform" or "the same". In a homogeneous material, the components are evenly distributed throughout, resulting in consistent properties across the material.

    Examples of homogeneous materials:

    * Salt water: The salt is dissolved evenly in the water.

    * Steel: A uniform alloy of iron and carbon.

    * Air: A mixture of gases like nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide, evenly distributed.
