  • Distillation: Understanding Liquid Separation Techniques
    This process is called distillation.

    Here's how it works:

    1. Boiling: The mixture of liquids is heated. The liquid with the lower boiling point will vaporize first.

    2. Condensation: The vapor is then cooled, causing it to condense back into a liquid.

    3. Collection: The condensed liquid is collected separately.

This process can be repeated to further purify the separated liquids.

    Different types of distillation:

    * Simple distillation: Used to separate liquids with significantly different boiling points.

    * Fractional distillation: Used to separate liquids with boiling points that are closer together.

    * Vacuum distillation: Used to separate liquids that have high boiling points or decompose at high temperatures.
