    * Period: Period 1

    2. Physical State:

    * Gas: Under standard conditions, hydrogen exists as a colorless, odorless, and highly flammable gas (diatomic molecule - H₂).

    * Liquid: Hydrogen can be liquefied under high pressure and low temperature.

    * Solid: Hydrogen can also be solidified at extremely low temperatures.

    3. Chemical Properties:

    * Nonmetal: Hydrogen is classified as a nonmetal because it lacks metallic properties.

    * Reducing Agent: Hydrogen readily reacts with oxygen to form water, acting as a reducing agent.

    * Isotopes: Hydrogen has three isotopes: protium (¹H), deuterium (²H), and tritium (³H).

    4. Applications:

    * Fuel: Hydrogen is a potential clean fuel source.

    * Industrial Production: Hydrogen is used in various industrial processes, such as ammonia synthesis and petroleum refining.

    * Rocket Propulsion: Liquid hydrogen is used as a fuel in rocket engines.

    5. Biological Importance:

    * Essential Element: Hydrogen is a key component of water and organic molecules, making it essential for life.

    It's important to note that hydrogen has a unique position in the periodic table and exhibits properties that set it apart from other elements. This is why it is often considered a special case, even though it is classified as a nonmetal and placed in Group 1.
