  • Helium: Properties, Reactivity, and Why It's a Noble Gas
    Helium is a non-reactive nonmetal. Here's why:

    * Noble Gas: Helium belongs to Group 18 of the periodic table, also known as the noble gases. These elements are known for their extreme stability and lack of reactivity.

    * Full Valence Shell: Helium has a full outer shell of electrons (2 electrons). This stable configuration makes it very resistant to gaining or losing electrons, which is the basis of chemical reactions.

    * Weak Interatomic Forces: Helium atoms have very weak interatomic forces, meaning they don't readily bond with other atoms.

In summary: Helium's unique electronic configuration and weak interatomic forces make it exceptionally unreactive, earning it the title of the most unreactive element on the periodic table.
