  • Sulfuric Acid and Litmus Paper: Understanding the Color Change
Sulphuric acid turns red litmus paper.

    Here's why:

    * Acids are substances that release hydrogen ions (H+) when dissolved in water.

    * Litmus paper is a pH indicator. It changes color depending on the acidity or alkalinity of a solution.

    * Red litmus paper indicates an acidic solution.

Since sulphuric acid is a strong acid, it readily releases H+ ions, making the solution acidic and causing the litmus paper to turn red.
