  • 1964 US Nickel: Silver Content & Composition Explained
A 1964 US nickel does not contain any silver.

Before 1965, US nickels were made of a 75% copper and 25% nickel alloy. However, due to rising silver prices, the composition of the nickel was changed in 1965 to a cheaper copper-nickel alloy (75% copper, 25% nickel). This change made the nickel less valuable, but it saved the government a considerable amount of money.
