  • Understanding Saturated Solutions: Definition & Properties
A solution that can have no more material dissolved is called a saturated solution.

    Here's why:

    * Saturated: Means the solvent (the substance doing the dissolving) has reached its maximum capacity to hold the solute (the substance being dissolved).

    * Unsaturated: A solution where more solute can still be dissolved.

    * Supersaturated: A solution that temporarily holds more solute than it normally could at that temperature. These solutions are unstable and the excess solute will usually precipitate out.
