  • Vinegar Smell: Chemical or Physical Property? - Chemistry Explained
The smell of vinegar is not a chemical property. Here's why:

    * Chemical properties describe how a substance reacts or changes its chemical composition. For example, flammability, reactivity with water, and the ability to rust are all chemical properties.

    * Physical properties describe the characteristics of a substance that can be observed without changing its chemical composition. Smell, color, texture, and boiling point are examples of physical properties.

The smell of vinegar is a result of the volatile acetic acid molecules in the vinegar evaporating and interacting with our sense of smell. This doesn't change the chemical composition of the vinegar itself.

Therefore, the smell of vinegar is a physical property.
